What Is Joe Buddens Beef With Eminem
Eminem's war with Joe Budden is ongoing after the rapper took aim at hip hop star on his new album Kamikaze.
There has been bad blood between the pair since Joe referred to Eminem's 2022 Revival album as 'trash' and it looks like neither one of them is prepared to call a truce.
But there is also speculation that their feud dates back to 2022 when Budden released his track SlaughterMouse, which some believe was an open diss letter to Eminem.
Fast-forward to Kamikaze and Eminem's album track Fall has ruffled Joe's feathers. In the track, Eminem raps the lines: 'Somebody tell Budden before I snap, he better fasten it/Or have his body baggage zipped/The closest thing he's had to hits is smackin' bitches.'
And now hip hop star Joe Budden has fired back at Eminem's scathing diss on his surprise album Kamikaze by boldly declaring himself the superior rapper.
In a video clip from his new podcast episode titled TV & Mayonnaise posted to his Instagram page, he told his former friend: 'News flash Em. I heard the album and because I don't think you remember all the members that were in the group so I don't think you know our history.
'Let me tell you what Joe Budden has thought this entire time. I've been better than you this entire fucking decade!'
After pausing to allow his harsh words to sink in, he went on to say that while he couldn't have said that at the height of Eminem's career, he was now confident. 'In my rapper brain, I'm a content n***a, you gotta saw something. You have not said anything for the better part of a whole fucking decade.'
His co-host Mal chimed in: 'That's true', with a fired-up Joe adding, 'You have rhymed bunch of words'.
Fall lyrics
[Intro: Eminem & Justin Vernon]
You know, everybody's been tellin' me what they think about me for the last few months
It's too loud
Maybe it's time I tell 'em what I think about them
Can't hear it coming down the hallway stairs from the parking lot
It's too loud
Three's not a crowd all up in it, slow fire
[Chorus: Justin Vernon]
Don't fall on my face
Don't fall on my faith, oh
Don't fall on my fate
Don't fall on my faith, oh
Don't fall on my fate
Don't fall on my–
[Verse 1: Eminem]
Gotta concentrate, against the clock I race
Got no time to waste, I'm already late, I got a marathoner's pace
Went from addict to a workaholic, word to Dr. Dre
In that first marijuana tape—guess I got a chronic case (yeah)
And I ain't just blowin' smoke, 'less it's in your momma's face
I know this time Paul and Dre
They won't tell me what not to say (nope)
And though me and my party days
Have all pretty much parted ways
You'd swear to God I forgot I'm the guy that made "Not Afraid"
One last time for Charlamagne
If my response is late, it's just how long it takes
To hit my fuckin' radar, I'm so far away
These rappers are like Hunger Games
One minute, they're mockin' J
Next minute, they get their style from Migos or they copy Drake
Maybe I just don't know when to turn around and walk away
But all the hate, I call it "Walk on Water" gate
I've had as much as I can tolerate
I'm sick and tired of waitin', I done lost my patience
I can take all of you motherfuckers on at once
You wanted Shady? You got him!
[Chorus: Justin Vernon & (Eminem)]
Don't fall on my face (yeah)
Don't fall on my faith, oh
Don't fall on my fate (line 'em up!)
Don't fall on my faith, oh (rrr!)
Don't fall on my fate (look)
[Verse 2: Eminem]
Somebody tell Budden before I snap, he better fasten it
Or have his body bag get zipped
The closest thing he's had to hits is smackin' bitches
And don't make me have to give it back to Akademiks
Say this shit is trash again, I'll have you twisted
Like you had it when you thought you had me slippin' at the telly
Even when I'm gettin' brain, you'll never catch me with a thot
Lackin' with it, "he ain't spittin' like this on his last shit"
Ho, you better go back and listen
You know me better, thinkin' I'll slow or let up
Call it trap 'cause it's a total setup
Hopin' that you rappers fall in that
Dre said, "Hold your head up!"—Kathy Griffin
Stackin' ammunition, slap the clip and cock it back on competition
This is how I shot ahead (pew)—Gabby Giffords
My attack is vicious, Jack the Ripper, back in business
Tyler create nothin', I see why you called yourself a (faggot), bitch
It's not just 'cause you lack attention
It's because you worship D12's balls, you're sack-religious
If you're gonna critique me
You better at least be as good or better
Get Earl the Hooded Sweater
Whatever his name is to help you put together
Some words, more than just two letters
The fans waited for this moment like that feature
When I stole the show (ha), sorry if I took forever (haha)
[Chorus: Justin Vernon & (Eminem)]
Don't fall on my face (yeah)
Don't fall on my faith, oh (I won't)
Don't fall on my fate (line 'em up!)
Don't fall on my faith, oh (ha)
Don't fall on my fate (it's too easy)
[Verse 3: Eminem]
Just remember, I was here before you
And I'll be here after you make your run-in for you
Detractors, I might have to fuck Pitchfork with a corkscrew
Just what the doctor ordered
Revenge is the best medicine
Increase the dose, from least to most
And then tell the Grammys to go and fuck themselves
They suck the blood from all the biggest artists like some leeches
So they nominate 'em, get 'em there, get a name to MC the show
Every parasite needs a host (haha)
Then give Album of the Year to somebody that no one's ever even heard of
All I know is I wrote every single word of
Everything I ever murdered
Time to separate the sheep from goats (yeah)
And I got no faith in your writers, I don't believe in ghosts
When rap needed it most, I was that wing and a prayer
A beacon of hope, put a B-I-R-D in the air
Somewhere some kid is bumpin' this while he lip-syncs in the mirror
That's who I'm doin' it for, the rest I don't really even care
But you would think I'm carryin' a Oxford dictionary in my pocket
How I'm buryin' these artists
On a scale of 'turnt' you're 'minus'
Mine says 'very', yours says 'hardly'
And what's scary is you probably can compare me to your car 'cause I'm just barely gettin' started (woo)
And far as Lord Jamar, you better leave me the hell alone
Or I'll show you an Elvis clone
Walk up in this house you own, thrust my pelvic bone
Use your telephone and go fetch me the remote
Put my feet up and just make myself at home
I belong here, clown, don't tell me 'bout the culture
I inspired the Hopsins, the Logics, the Coles, the
Seans, the K-Dots, the 5'9″s, and oh
Brought the world 50 Cent, you did squat, piss and moan
But I'm not gonna fall… bitch!
[Outro: Justin Vernon]
Can't hear it coming down the hallway stairs from the parking lot
It's too loud
Three's not a crowd all up in it
Slow fire
He continued his tirade in a second clip in which he reveals he is tempted to return to the studio to teach Eminem a lesson.
'I know you don't know about me. You better go ask some n***as close to you. I live for this type of shit. All of that rappity-rap, lyrical miracle bullshit, any n***a that want it like that, that think they want it with me? I don't think you would fare well.'
The plot twist is that even though Joe is retired, he is technically still under a contract with Eminem's Shady Records through the group Slaughterhouse.
Whether his fans prefer Kamikaze to his lacklustre 2022 album Revival, Eminem has certainly got people talking with his new disc. A lot.
Kamikaze, which is his tenth studio album, continues to dominate headlines one week after its release.
And it's all pretty much down to the fact that it appears to be a diss album.
Eminem – whose real name is Marshall Mathers III – dropped Kamikaze last week unexpectedly, one year after his 2022 disc Revival was panned by critics.
The name is derived from the Japanese tactic of using World War 2 planes loaded with explosives to drop on targets to cause a deliberate suicidal crash. The word is also commonly used as an adjective to describe someone who is reckless or self-destructs.
On the record, Eminem takes digs at President Donald Trump, Lil Yachty, Tyler, The Creator, Die Antwoord and the Grammy Awards, and the press, to name a few.
Here are all of the disses on Eminem's Kamikaze...
MACHINE GUN KELLY
On the track Not Alike, Eminem raps: 'Now you wanna come and fuck with me, huh?/This little cock-sucker, he must be feeling himself/He wants to keep up His tough demeanour, so he does a feature/Decides to team up with Nina/But next time you don't gotta use Tech N9ne if you wanna come at me with a sub-machine gun/And I'm talking to you but you already know who the fuck you are, Kelly/I don't use sublims and sure as fuck don't sneak-diss/But keep commenting on my daughter Hailie.'
Fans may recall that MGK's angered the Lose Yourself hitmaker in 2012 when he tweeted that his daughter, Hailie, was 'hot as f***'.
MGK claims that his comment about Eminem's daughter led to him allegedly being banned from certain media outlets.
During a freestyle rap with the LA Lakers in 2017, MGK even rapped: 'I'm my favourite rapper alive since my favourite rapper banned me from Shade 45.' Shade 45 is a music channel which plays uncensored hip hop music.
And after Eminem responded with Not Alike, the Cleveland-born rapper, born Richard Colson Baker, decided to kick off his Monday by responding to the Kamikaze shots fired by the Slim Shady rapper.
Announcing his diss track to his 3.4million Instagram followers, Machine Gun Kelly wrote: 'FUCK RAP GOD IM THE RAP DEVIL…good morning @eminem'.
In the track entitled Rap Devil, MGK claims Eminem's is no longer one of the greatest rappers alive rapping: 'Still can't cover up the fact the last four albums as bad as your selfie.'
He also directly addresses his former idol, saying 'Now tell me what do you stand for?' and 'I know you can't stand yourself.'
And he refers to Eminem'a daughter, Hailie Jade, saying: '"I think my dad's gone crazy," yeah, Hailie, you right.'
[Intro]
Oh my god, Ronny
[Verse 1]
Ayy, somebody grab him some clippers (Zzz)
His fucking beard is weird
Tough talk from a rapper paying millions for security a year
"I think my dad's gone crazy," yeah, Hailie, you right
Dad's always mad cooped up in the studio, yelling at the mic
You're sober and bored, huh (I know)
About to be 46 years old, dog
Talkin' 'bout "I'ma call up Trick Trick"
Man, you sound like a bitch, bitch
Man up and handle your shit (ugh)
Mad about something I said in 2012
Took you six years and a surprise album just to come with a diss
Homie we get it, we know that you're the greatest rapper alive
Fucking dweeb, all you do is read the dictionary and stay inside
Fuck Rap God, I'm the Rap Devil
Coming bare-faced with a black shovel
Like the Armageddon when the smoke settle
His body next to this instrumental
I'm saying
[Chorus]
I'm sick of them sweatsuits and them corny hats, let's talk about it
I'm sick of you being rich and you still mad, let's talk about it
Both of us single dads from the Midwest, we can talk about it
Or we could get gully I'll size up your body and put some white chalk around it
[Verse 2]
Let's talk about the fact you actually blackballed a rapper that's twice as young as you (let's talk about it)
Let's call Sway, ask why I can't go on Shade 45 because of you (brrt)
Let's ask Interscope how you had Paul Rosenberg trying to shelf me (huh?)
Still can't cover up the fact your last four albums is as bad as your selfie
Now tell me, what do you stand for? (What?)
I know you can't stand yourself (no)
Trying to be the old you so bad you Stan yourself (ha)
Let's leave all the beefing to 50 (please)
Em you're pushing 50
Why you claiming that I'ma call Puff?
When you the one that called Diddy (facts)
Then you went and called Jimmy (facts)
They conference called me in the morning (what?)
They told me you mad about a tweet
You wanted me to say sorry (what?)
I swear to God I ain't believe him (nah)
Please say it ain't so (no)
The big bad bully of the rap game can't take a fucking joke
Oh you want some fucking smoke (what?)
But not literally, you'll choke
Yeah I'll acknowledge you're the GOAT
But I'm The Gunner, bitch, I got you in the scope (brra)
Don't have a heart attack now (no)
Somebody help your mans up (help)
Knees weak of old age
The real Slim Shady can't stand up
[Chorus]
I'm sick of them sweatsuits and them corny hats, let's talk about it
I'm sick of you being rich and you still mad, let's talk about it
Both of us single dads from the Midwest, we can talk about it
Or we could get gully I'll size up your body and put some white chalk around it
[Verse 3]
Hello Marshall, my name's Colson
You should go back to Recovery
I know your ego is hurting just knowing that all of your fans discovered me (hi)
He like "Damn, he a younger me
Except he dresses better and I'm ugly
Always making fun of me"
Stop all the thuggery Marshall, you living in luxury (damn)
Look what you done to me, dropped an album just because of me
Damn, you in love with me
You got money but I'm hungry
I like the diss but you won't say those lyrics out in front of me
Shout out to every rapper that's up under me
Know that I'll never do you like this fuckery
Still bitter after everyone loves you
Pull that wedgie out your dungarees (hey)
I gotta respect the OGs and I know most of 'em personally (ayy)
But you're just a bully acting like a baby so I gotta read you a nursery (nursery)
I'm the ghost of the future and you're just Ebenezer Scrooge (facts)
I said on Flex, anyone could get it
I ain't know it would be you
[Chorus]
I'm sick of them sweatsuits and them corny hats, let's talk about it
I'm sick of you being rich and you still mad, let's talk about it
Both of us single dads from the Midwest, we can talk about it
Or we could get gully I'll size up your body and put some white chalk around it
[Bridge]
Riding shotty 'cause I gotta roll this dope
It's a fast road when your idols become your rivals, yeah
Never hesitate to say it to your face, I'm an asshole
Bitch ass motherfucker
Oh my god, Ronny
[Verse 4]
We know you get nervous, Rabbit
I see momma's spaghetti all over your sweater
I wish you would lose yourself on the record that you made a decade ago, they were better
According to them you're a national treasure
To me you're as soft as a feather
The type to be scared to ask Rihanna for her number, just hold her umbrella-ella-ella
"I'm not afraid," okay Oscar the Grouch, chill on the couch (fuck)
You got an Oscar, damn can anyone else get some food in their mouth? (For real)
They made a movie about you, you're in everybody's top ten
You're not getting better with time
It's fine Eminem, put down the pen
Or write an apology about the simple fact you had to write a diss to acknowledge me
I am the prodigy, how could I even look up to you
You ain't as tall as me
5'8″ and I'm 6'4″
Seven punches hold your head still
Last time you saw 8 Mile was at home on a treadmill
You were named after a candy
I was named after a gangster (brr)
And don't be a sucker and take my verse off of Yelawolf's album, thank you (thank you)
I just wanna feed my daughter
You tried to stop the money to support her
You the one always talk about the action
Text me the addy, I'm pulling up scrappy
And I'm by fucking myself, what's happenin'?
EST captain, salute me or shoot me
That's what he's gonna have to do to me when he realizes there ain't shit he could do to me
Everybody always hated me, this isn't anything new to me
Yeah there's a difference between us, I got all of my shit without Dre producing me (ayy)
I know you're not used to me
Usually one of your disses should ruin me
But bitch I'm from Cleveland, everybody quiet this evening, I'm reading the eulogy (shh)
Dropped an album called Kamikaze, so that means it killed him
Already fucked one rapper's girl this week, don't make me call Kim
[Chorus]
I'm sick of them sweatsuits and them corny hats, let's talk about it
I'm sick of you being rich and you still mad, let's talk about it
Both of us single dads from the Midwest, we can talk about it
Or we could get gully I'll size up your body and put some white chalk around it
The song has already racked up over one million views on YouTube and prompted a strong response from the online community, with fans already pledging allegiance to #TeamMGK or #TeamEminem.
'I'm standing up for not just myself, but my generation,' MGK told fans on Twitter. 'I'm doing the same sh*t you did back in ur day. Life is still real on my side, and I had to take time from the grind to defend myself from someone I called an idol. Love, Rap Devil.'
JA RULE
Back in 2002, Ja Rule rapped about Eminem's daughter Hailie on his track Loose Change: 'Em, you claim your mother's a crackhead/And Kim is a known slut/So what's Hailie gon' be when she grows up.' Hailie was seven-years-old at the time.
Eminem responded in 2003 with Doe Ray Me 'Hailie's Revenge'), but he clearly wasn't done.
On his Greatest track, Eminem hits back: 'I hear you talking shit, I'm just too big to respond to it / God forbid I forget, go and jump out the window / Somebody better child-proof it / 'Cause if I lose it we can rewind to some old Ja Rule shit.'
And Ja Rule was ready to respond, tweeting: 'Guess that Hailie line must be starting to hit home.'
DJ AKADEMIKS
Eminem also takes a swipe at DJ Akademiks, who is Budden's co-host on the first season of Everyday Struggle.
https://www.instagram.com/p/BnRbYeYA7V-/?hl=en&taken-by=akadmiks
Rapping on Kamikaze, Eminem said: 'And don't make me have to give it back to Akademiks/Say this shit is trash again, I'll have you twisted like you had it/when you thought you had me slippin' at the telly/Even when I'm gettin' brain, you'll never catch me with a thot.'
But Akademiks responded in a rather confused manner.
'I thought it was only Joe getting dissed, I got name dropped and dissed. And I'm like, 'the fuck did I do?' he said.
TYLER, THE CREATOR
On the track Fall, which features Justin Vernon, Eminem uses a homophobic slur against Tyler, The Creator.
The song hears the 45-year-old, real name Marshall Mathers III, rap: 'Tyler create nothing, I see why you called yourself a f****t, bitch / it's not just 'cause you lack attention / it's 'cause you worship D12's balls, you're sacrilegious.'
Tyler, 27, has been heavily criticised himself for his use of homophobic slurs in his music, but lyrics on his 2022 album Flower Boy suggested that he was coming out as gay.
Eminem has been accused of homophobia on multiple occasions over the years, with the slur 'f****t' used in many of his songs.
Possibly the worst example of this is his 2000 song Criminal, which includes the lyrics: 'My words are like a dagger with a jagged edge/ That will stab you in the head/ Whether you're a f** or les'/ Or the homo-sex, hermaph', or a trans'a'vest'/ Pants or dress, hate f**s? the answer's "yes".'
Eminem has denied being homophobic, telling Rolling Stone in 2013: 'I don't know how to say this without saying it how I've said it a million times… But those kind of words, when I came up battle-rappin' or whatever, I never really equated those words [with being gay].
'It was more like calling someone a bitch or a punk or asshole… I poke fun at other people, myself. But the real me sitting here right now talking to you has no issues with gay, straight, transgender, at all.'
Elton John famously performed with Eminem at the 2001 Grammys, with the pair holding hands after a performance of Stan.
Last year, Elton told Zane Lowe: 'For me, Eminem was never homophobic. I listened to the whole of the Marshall Mathers album when I drove to a show in South Hampton and I was floored by it. And I thought how could anyone think this is… he's just writing about the way things are. Not how he thinks, but the way things are.
'I did the Grammys with Marshall and I became very big friends with Marshall. I'll fight for anyone who is misunderstood and misrepresented by the idiots out there.'
DONALD TRUMP
Back in 2022 Eminem released an eight-minute Trump diss song called Campaign Speech, making his feelings for the President clear.
On his new track The Ringer, Em says: 'But I think it's workin'/These verses are makin' him a wee bit nervous/And he's too scared to answer me with words/'Cause he knows that he will lyrically get murdered/But I know at least he's heard it/'Cause Agent Orange just sent the Secret Service/To meet in person/To see if I really think of hurtin' him/Or ask if I'm linked to terrorists.'
Trump is yet to respond.
LIL YACHTY
Also on The Ringer, Eminem takes a swipe at Lil Yachty.
'I can see why people like Lil Yachty, but not me though/Not even dissin', it just ain't for me.' he raps.
Yachty then tweeted: 'Lmao me personally I think it's [fire] Eminem took a shot at me.. I fuck wit Eminem,' showing there are no hard feelings.
CHARLAMAGNE THA GOD
Charlamagne tha God, an American presenter, has been outspoken in his criticism of Eminem in recent years.
So on his new album Kamikaze, Eminem raps: 'Charlamagne gonna hate anyway/Doesn't matter what I say/Give me Donkey of the Day.'
Charlamagne has responded, saying: 'I don't hate. I tell the truth. That's not hatin' me sayin' 'Revival' was wack 'cause clearly Eminem thought 'Revival' was wack, too.'
GRAMMY AWARDS
Eminem has long been outspoken about the awards, rapping in his 2000 song Slim Shady: 'You think I give a damn about a Grammy? / Half of you critics can't even stomach me, let alone stand me.'
Ironically The Slim Shady album won Best Rap Album in 2000 and The Real Slim Shady Best Rap Solo Performance in 2001.
In fact, he has won 15 Grammy Awards, with his last win being in 2015.
However, on The Fall he raps: 'Then tell the Grammys to go and fuck themselves, they suck the/blood from all the biggest artists like some leeches/So they nominate 'em, get 'em there, get a name to 'em/See the show, every parasite needs a host.'
KIM ANNE SCOTT
Eminem also appears to take aim at his ex wife and mother of his three daughters, Kim Anne Scott.
Having been married twice, they've had a turbulent relationship with Eminem previously writing about her in his music.
In a 2008 interview, Kim said of Eminem: 'He's useless in bed and relies on sexual enhancement pills. He's an absolutely horrible person and he gets worse every day. I vomit in my mouth whenever I'm around him or I hear his name.'
Eminem responded on Kamikaze by rapping: 'You say I'm no good at sex / And you think I'm gross and unsexy / …Every word that comes out your mouth's a fucking lie.'
So where can you listen and download the album?
His 10th album is on download and streaming services, including Spotify and Apple Music, now.
You can listen to it here:
The 45-year-old tweeted: 'Tried not 2 overthink this 1… enjoy. ? #KAMIKAZE Out Now', sharing the cover art for Kamikaze.
The album – complete with the standard 'parental advisory' sticker – sees the tail end of a kamikaze jet reading 'FU-2', while the back of the album sees the pilot flipping the bird, with the nose of the plane, designed to look like a shark, is crashing and on fire.
Kamikaze is 13 tracks long, with two of the songs being recordings of voicemails between Eminem and his manager Paul Rosenberg.
One recording, clocking in at under one minute, hears Rosenberg ask Eminem about his new album: 'Are you really going just to deride everybody who, you don't like what they have to say about you or the stuff you're working on? I don't know if that's really a great idea, it's like what's next, Kamikaze 2, the album where you reply to everybody who didn't like the album that you made replying to everybody that didn't like the previous album? It's a slippery slope, I don't know if it's really a good idea.'
The album concludes with the song Venom – which features on the soundtrack of the upcoming Tom Hardy movie.
Kamikaze was executive produced by Dr Dre and features contributions from Justin Vernon (aka Bon Iver), Royce Da 5'9", Joyner Lucas and Jessie Reyez, while Kendrick Lamar is credited due to a sample of Humble being used.
